Men's Doubles Tournament

On a bright, yet blustery, Spring morning ten hardy individuals turned out for the first tournament of the year. Following the random pair selections, warm-up and mickey taking, battle was joined.

Each of the five pairs played the other four with each 'set' consisting of nine games. At the end of this league stage the two pairs that had won the most games would go through to the final.

Paul Kaye and Adrian Shakeshaft may, on paper, have seemed to be the strongest pairing. But form isn't always true.
However, in this case it was, with Paul and Adrian remaining unbeaten in the league stage.

The struggle for the second place in the final was much tighter though. It came down to the last set between
Gary Payne / Ed Zeigler and Tom Shouksmith / Geoff Bullock. The winner would go through. After going 4-0 down, Gary and Ed clawed their way back to 4-3 before succumbing.

The final between Paul/Adrian and Tom/Geoff proved that poise, grace, determination and ambition are not enough - you also need to be pretty good at tennis. Paul and Adrian won 6-1 to take the trophy.

Thanks go to Ian Illingworth for organising and running the tournament and St.Tropez for providing the fake tan.
