Curry and Casino Night 2010

What a wonderful evening. Thank you to everyone who came and a very special thank you to Lisa for all her hard work in organising everything and to Gary for comparing the evening with wit and style.

Ian, Geoff S and Geoff B?

The night began with drinks and mingling - spotting the celebrities is always fun. We were fortunate enough to have three James Bond look-a-likes, and I'm sure the lilting voice of one of the Corr sisters was heard. During this Gary circulated and explained the 'complex' system of buying casino dollars - £2 for $50 or £5 for $150 - most people understood!

The curry followed with bhajis and samosas, mild or medium curry and rice - and of course the beverage of your own choice. (as you brought it!). Whilst satisfying our appetites we had our brains exercised by a devilish sporting picture quiz set by Lisa. (Who was that athletic deity in picture 16?) Paul Dadvar's knowledge of pictures of lady sportstars was unsurpassed and he (and his team) won the quiz.

The gambling then began. As a newcomer to such activities I had taken the precaution of supergluing my shirt in place. This turned out to be unnecessary. The croupiers were friendly and extremely helpful in explaining how to play. Fighting your way to the front of the table was the trickiest part. Starting with roulette provided a fun and profitable half hour. Only the urge to win more proved the undoing. Why didn't red 11 come up with my $50 bet on it? Oh well, time for a drink.

The blackjack must be easier. Making 21, how hard can it be? Very. Bank wins...bank wins....bank wins...time for a drink.

How did it get to 11.30 already? Oh well, I'm out of money anyway - and this shirt won't come off.

The prize for most winnings went to Geoff Steel who proved that luck does exist by betting everything on his last hand and twisting with four cards and nineteen....and up comes a two. Five card trick and $1500. Well done Geoff.

The raffle and roullete cards were very successful. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets or contributed to the raffle prizes.

As said earlier, it was a fantastic night out. Thank you Lisa and Gary.

Same time next year?
